Notice of Study CompletionAddendum to the Environmental Study ReportNotice of filing of Addendum – South Merivale Business Park Access Road (Longfields Drive Extension)In 2000, the former City of Nepean initiated a Class Environmental Assessment for the design of a new 1 km long access road linking Woodroffe Avenue to the South Merivale Business Park (SMBP).
When the 2000 EA study was initiated, growth in the SMBP was due primarily to growth in the high-tech industry. With the subsequent down-turn in high-tech growth, by the conclusion of the 2000 EA study, the City determined that the need for the access road was no longer a priority. As a result, the project was shelved and land agreements were not finalized. In 2006, the RCMP announced that they will be moving into the business park. Concern over the capacity of the existing local road network was renewed and the project is being re-evaluated by the City of Ottawa. As more than 5 years have elapsed since the filing of the ESR, and construction has not commenced on the project, an addendum is required to ensure that recommendations documented in the 2000 ESR are still valid given the current planning context. A Public Open House was held on January 14th at the Walter Baker Centre. Information was presented on the renewed need for this project along with a summary of existing environmental conditions and design alternatives. The Addendum to the South Merivale Business Park Access Road Environmental Study Report is now available for a 30-day public review at the following locations:

If there are no requests received by 29 August 2008, the project will proceed to construction as presented in the Study.
